Our Story Began With a Single Photograph
In 2014, our founder discovered a box of deteriorating photographs in her grandmother's basement. Images spanning nearly a century—from immigration documents to wedding portraits—were fading into oblivion. Professional scanning services at the time were either prohibitively expensive or offered poor quality results.
That frustrating experience sparked the creation of moss-badger. We believed families deserved access to professional-grade digitization without institutional budgets. Every photograph, film reel, and document matters to someone. Our mission became making preservation accessible to everyone.
What started as a small operation has grown into a comprehensive preservation service trusted by families across Canada. We have digitized collections ranging from a handful of wedding photos to multi-generational archives containing thousands of items. Our facility houses professional-grade scanning equipment capable of capturing details invisible to the naked eye. For photographs, we use Epson Perfection and Hasselblad Flextight scanners known throughout the archival industry for their accuracy.
Film transfers utilize frame-by-frame scanning technology rather than real-time capture. This produces dramatically superior results, especially for older or damaged film stock. Each frame receives individual attention and correction.
